In the year 2017 Puerto Rican singer Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee released Despacito and it topped the charts for most streamed songs in just 6 months. The single a mix of reggaeton and pop music has not just brought attention to reggaeton but it also attracted attention towards Latin music in general. Billboard's Top 100 featured two songs in Spanish predominantly, as well as four tracks in the year 2016. During the height of Despacito's popularity in 2017 however 19 mostly Spanish songs made it to the Top 100, and in 2020 there were 41 such songs. Justin Bieber remixed Despacito 2017 with a version in two languages. Soon, other artists collaborated with reggaeton superstars including Drake and Bad Bunny with MIA (2018), Madonna and Maluma and Medellin 2019. From the beginning of 2020, a few reggaeton artists protested that it was moving towards more mainstream. Rauw Alajandro is a part of a new generation that aims to change the course. The group incorporated elements from different styles and electronic music.
